Mangalore, June 3: A mild tension prevailed in Kudroli area when a team of officials from Mangalore City Corporation raided an alleged illegal slaughter house early on Sunday morning.
The raid was part of civic body's ongoing crackdown on illegal business across the city.
Sources said that a dozen officials led by MCC Joint Commissioner Srikant Rao raided the unauthorised slaughter house situated near the authorised slaughter house in Kudroli at around 5:30 am.
The officials seized as many as 26 sheep from a room and skin from another room before sealing the building. Later the seized sheep were handed over to the MCC slaughter house.
Noor Mohammad, who was identified as owner of the unauthorised slaughter house tried to protest and send the officials back when he saw the latter entering into the building. It is leant that he did not possesses any licence for the business.
Local people gathered in the area when an argument broke out between the officials and the owner of the slaughter house. However no untoward incident was occurred as police also had accompanied the officials.
The raid was followed by the inspections of meet stalls at Central Market, where the officials asked the stall owners to maintain cleanliness.
