Mangalore, June 4: Hundreds of people including a galaxy of political and social leaders cutting across party lines paid their last their last respects to veteran CPI leader B V Kakkilaya in the city on Monday.
The mortal remains of Kakkilaya, who breathed his last in the wee hours of Monday, at a private hospital was shifted to his residence at Simon Lane, Capitanio around 2:30 pm.
The body was kept for public viewing at CPI office at Hoige Bazar between 3:00pm and 4:00pm. The funeral cortege later left for the crematorium at Nandigudda.
Among those paying their last respects at CPI office were Deputy Speaker of Legislative Assembly N Yogish Bhat, former Union minister B Janardhan Poojary, Bantwal MLA B Ramanath Rai, KPCC secretary Ivan D'Souza, BJP leaders Padmanabha Kottari, Srikar Prabhu, Franklin Monteiro, CPI state secretary K C Satish Chandran, CPM state council member B V Krishnan, Dakshina Kannada Rationalists Association president Narendra Nayak and Comrade K R Sriyan.
