Matha Amritanandamayi Math, Mangalore, in association with the district administration and Environment Pollution Control Board, held an environment protection awareness programme at Town Hall in the city.
Dr. K N Vijayaprakash, CEO, DK Zilla Panchayat, inaugurated the programme. Dr. N S Chennappa Gowda, Deputy Commissioner, DK, and A G Pai, Director, JBF Petrochemicals, Mangalore, were also present.
Prior to the stage programme, an environment awareness jatha was held from Light House and proceed towards Town Hall via Jyothi. Awareness messages about recycling, proper disposal of waste etc were disseminated on the occasion.
On the other hand, The Gateway Hotel in association with the Regional Transport Office held a free emission checkup for two wheelers and four wheelers as part of the World Environment Day.
Distribution of paper bags in the Central Market area of the city was also carried out by the Hotel authorities to create awareness among the citizens about the hazards of using plastic bags.
A painting competition for children of age groups 10-12 and 13-15 was also organized on the topic 'Save Earth' on Monday as part of the Environment Day celebrations.
