Mangalore, June 16: A screening of the national award winning film 'Beary' was organized by Dakshina Kannada Karavali Belli Mandala at Ravindra Kalabhavana auditorium in the city on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Rahim Uchil, President, Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, said that the film's director Altaf Hussain had created history by making 'Beary'.
Although the film has won a national award, it has not got wide acceptance within the Beary community, Mr. Uchil said. “The Beary community in general does not encourage cinema owing to religious reasons. The community must treat cinema as a medium of communication rather than a tool of entertainment and accept the social awakening that films bring with them without compromising on obscenity”, he opined.
Vijaykumar Kodialbail, Filmmaker and President of the Mandala said that it is a matter of pride for Tulunadu that a film in a local language of the region had bagged the Golden Lotus at the National level. He also said that the Mandala is also keen on screening Abhaya Simha's 'Gubbachchigalu' in the near future.
Ananthakrishna, Chairman, Karnataka Bank and Ashokvardhan of Athree Book Stores were also present.
