Manipal, June 19: Even though the bodies of two Manipal Institute of Technology students were recovered from Mannupalla lake, the damaged pedal boat which had led to the tragedy in the wee hours of last Saturday is still missing.
Udupi district Superintendent of Police M B. Boralingaiah has said that police have not yet traced the boat as the search operation so far was concentrated on recovering the missing body.
He said that the search for the missing boat would begin on Wednesday. The police were yet to get the postmortem report of the two students, who drowned in the lake, he said.
Three students of MIT had gone boating on a pedal boat at the Mannupalla lake between 1.45 a.m. and 2 a.m. on June 16.
Two students — Nikhila Malimadgula from Hyderabad and Kiran Chandramouli from Bangalore, got drowned because of a hole in the pedal boat while the third student Shaunak Mahbubani managed to swim back to the shore of lake.
The body of Nikhila was recovered from the lake on June 16 and that of Kiran on June 17. But the fibre pedal boat had still not been traced.
