Mangalore, June 22: Disgruntled by poor facilities at a coaching class, many students staged a protest on Thursday demanding the fulfillment of promises given by the administration during the time of admission.
The students of Brilliant Coaching Class, which was functioning at an under construction building of Karavali Group of Institutions at Neermarga took on the management for not taking classes and not proving facilities promised by the Coaching Class management during admissions.
The students complained that when they took the matter up with the management of the coaching class on Wednesday, they suggested the students to leave the city and go back to their native places as there are possibilities of communal riots erupting in the city on Thursday.
“While some students had packed and left for their native place, many of us sensed that the management was probably planning to run away with our money. We stayed back and met Karavali College management. But the College said that they have nothing to do in this issue,” said a student on conditions of anonymity.
The Coaching centre had collected Rs 7,000 per student and had promised to give food and accommodation. The students complained that stale and spoilt food items were being served to them and even rooms provided to them were shabby.
This made them to fight for their right.
However, over the course of protest on Thursday, one of the drivers of Karavali group of Institutions was reportedly assaulted by the students when the driver tried to be violent with the students.
However, Kankanady rural police, the ASI denied any fight in the College premises. He said the misunderstanding between the College administration and the students were solved amicably and no case was filed in this regard.
