Bantwal, June 22: A youth was killed and nearly two dozen passengers were injured in a head-on collision between two KSRTC buses on NH75 at Kudrebettu near Kalladka on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Govind Raj (20) from Hunsur in Mysore district. The condition of thee among injured passengers is said to be critical.
The accident occurred when the driver of the limited-stop bus plying from BC Road to Puttur lost control over his vehicle while negotiating a curve and rammed into an express bus coming from Madikeri.
The impact of the crash was such that front portions of both the buses were completed damaged.
Raj, who sustained critical injuries in the accident, breathed his last at a private hospital in Mangalore. He was a daily wage labourer at a KSRTC depot in Mangalore.
Around 15 injured passengers from both the buses have been admitted various hospitals in Mangalore and BC Road.
Most of the passengers said that the negligence on part of the Puttur bound bus was the main reason for the accident.
A case has been registered at Bantwal Town Police Station based on a complaint lodge by one Sanjeeva Poojari, who was travelling in the same bus.
