Mangalore, June 23: The 'Shaalegagi Naavu Neevu' (SNN) programme aimed at enrolling more students under government schools and enhancing their quality would be launched across the state, including Mangalore on July 5, Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri, State Education Minister, said.
Addressing media persons at a press meet in Mangalore on Saturday, Mr. Kageri said that the campaign had been introduced last year too which bore positive results. The programme also provides scope for parents of children and the society as a whole to get involved and provide suggestions for the overall betterment of government schools, he said.
Similarly, implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act in the state has also brought positive results, Mr. Kageri said. Although the Act states that it is the right of every child to obtain education till class 8, the state government wants to go a step further and ensure that every child gets education all the way to degree level, the Minister said.
Although mobile schools and tent schools are already functioning, residential schools for migrant children will also be constructed by government, Mr. Kageri said.
He also stated on the occasion that the government is looking forward to extending the revision of syllabus from class 1 onwards. Syllabus for 5th and 8th standards has been revised already.
