Karwar, June 24: Members of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) on Saturday submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Inkanglo Jameer urging the State Government to pay compensation to the families of three students from Uttara Kannada who died in separate accidents in the recent past.
In the memorandum, the NSUI stated that Shruthi Satish Tendulkar, a class 8 student of Amadalli village, collapsed in school on June 16 and died. She was suffering from fever.
The Government should pay compensation to her family from the students' insurance scheme.
On June 22, Jab Benni Gomes, a primary school student of Gadimudki village in Bhatkal taluk, fell under a heap of sand while playing in school.
The death was because of heavy rain. Hence, Rs. 5 lakh should be paid to his family from the natural calamity fund.
NSUI urged the Government to pay compensation to the family of Vinanti Salgoankar, a student of Shivaji School, who died under mysterious circumstances.
The Deputy Commissioner received the memorandum and promised to take action.
Siddhartha Naik, NSUI district unit president, Ashish Gaonkar, Sandeep Naik, Milind Raikar, Pavan Naik, Prathvi, Gajendra, and Puneet, members, were present.
