Mangalore, June 25: Members of the Campus Front of India (CFI) held a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office, here on Monday against the state BJP leaders, who called for the 'saffronisation' of education.
The protesters raised slogans against K S Eshwarappa, BJP State President, Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri, State Education Minister and Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mangalore MP, who have defended the idea of 'saffronisation' in schools.
Stating that the remarks made by Mr. Eshwarappa are anti-constitutional, Abu Sinan, Member, CFI State Committee, said that the BJP led state government wants to communalise the entire educational system.
“Mr Kageri has defended Mr. Eshwarappa's statement that 'saffronisation' refers to protection of culture. But the entire state has realised what culture the BJP follows thanks to Halappa scandal and blue film episodes. What kind of culture will children learn from this BJP government?” Mr. Sinan questioned.
The protestors burnt a banner containing portraits of Mr. Eshwarappa and Mr Kateel, who recently made a statement that 'saffronisation' should be intensified in schools of Dakshina Kannada.
The agitation would be intensified throughout the state if Mr. Eshwarappa does not take back his words, the protestors warned.
