Mangalore, July 3: Exactly four months after being arrested by the Anti-Naxal Force, Mangalore University student Vittala Malekudiya and his father Lingappa Malekudiya were on Tuesday granted conditional bail by the Belthangady Judicial Magistrate First Class court.
Mr. Vittala and his father Mr. Linganna who are currently in Mangalore sub-jail, had applied for bail with the High Court of Karnataka.
The High Court after hearing the petition had recently asked the lower court to consider the bail plea of the duo. The Court in its ruling had observed that the police had failed to file charge-sheet against the duo even after 90 days.
The duo were arrested at their home in Kuthlur near Belthangady by the Anti-Naxal Force on March 3, 2012.
Having been booked under Section 10 and 13 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Section 121 of the IPC, the duo were earlier denied bail by the local court. But, the court had allowed Vittala to write the examinations under police security.
Advocate Shiva Prakash represented the duo in the Court.
