Bantwal, July 7: In a heart-wrenching tragedy a 6-year-old son of a Nonresident Indian lost his life after he drowned in the overflowing Netravati River here on Saturday.
Police have identified the victim as Abdul Shamit, a Class 1 student of a private school in Bantwal Lower Town. His father Abdul Jabbar is working abroad.
As usually the boy had left his home in Nandavar early in the morning, travelled in school bus along with his friends, reached school on time and attended all the classes.
However, when the boy did not return home on time the family members started searching for him.
Later in the evening the family members were informed by the local people that a uniform-clad boy's dead body was found in the river.
It is assumed that the boy might have accidentally drowned when he stepped into the river after finishing the classes.
Bantwal town police rushed to the spot and conducted the spot investigation. A case has been registered based on a complaint lodged by the grandmother of the boy.
