Udupi, July 12: The lack of representation for coastal Karnataka in Jagadish Shettar led Karnataka government has come as a rude shock to people of twin districts.
The frustration and anger of the followers of the Kundapur MLA Haladi Srinivas Shetty, who was denied a ministerial berth in the last moment translated into public protest in his home town.
Dozens of BJP leaders in Kundapur took out a protest march and staged a demonstration at Shasthri Circle. They raised slogans demanding the induction of their beloved MLA in the cabinet immediately. They also gave a call for `Kundapur Bandh' on Friday.
In Haladi, the hometown of Mr Shetty, the angry protesters set ablaze tires on the roads of Bidkalkatte, Beejadi, Balkur and staged a `raasta roko'.
As many as 10 councilors from Kundapur Town Municipal Council submitted their resignations to the Council President Mohandas Shenoy who along with his resignation submitted the papers to the party chief in Kundapura. As many as 15 members of Beejadi Gram Panchayat and heads of several units of Bajarang Dal have also submitted their resignation, sources said.
Meanwhile AG Kodgi, Chairman of the Third Finance Commission Report Implementation Committee, has threatened to quit the post in case Mr Shetty submits his resignation in protest.
