Mangalore, July 13: Four persons were killed in three separate road accidents reported from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod districts.
Two people were killed and nine others sustained injuries in a head-on collision between a private bus and jeep on NH 75 at Perne in Puttur taluk on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Kamala (60) and jeep driver Jagannath (48), both residents of Ananthady.
The incident occurred when a family was on its way to Ananthady after attending a wedding in Uppinagady. The injured passengers have been admitted to a hospital.
In another incident a 28-year-old man fell of his motorcycle while trying to avoid a dog near Havanje village in Udupi taluk and died in hospital.
The Brahmavar police gave the name of the victim as Nagaraj. The accident occurred when he was proceeding to Udupi from home.
In the third incident reported from Chalingal near Kanhangad in Kasargod district, a motorcycle rider was fatally knocked down by a truck on Thursday evening, police said.
The accident occurred around 6 p.m. as the truck proceeding towards Kasaragod hit the two-wheeler head on while negotiating a sharp curve on the National Highway No.17, a senior police official at the accident spot said. The identity of the motorcycle rider could not be established immediately, the official said.
The truck that sped away after hitting the two-wheeler was chased and stopped by local residents. The body of the youth was shifted to the District Hospital at Kanhangad, he said.
