Uppinangady, July 17: Muslim girl students of Ramakunjeshwara First Grade College continued their protest into the fifth day on Tuesday. A delegation of Muslim Central Committee paid a visit to the College now is holding talks with the College management.

The students are protesting against the College's decision to ban headscarves. Since they were not allowed to protest inside the campus, they are holding the protest outside the college gate.

Discussion with regard to the scarf issue is expected to be held under the leadership of K Ram Bhat, Honourary President, Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha, with representatives of managements of the various private educational institutions in Puttur.

Due to protests from students, the College authorities had convened a meeting with their parents. The parents had appealed to the College to allow their wards to continue wearing headscarves. But the College authorities refused to accept their plea stating that if the students' demand is met, some other students from other religious communities would also demand religious freedom.

Following the failure of this meet, the students have continued their protest.
