Kasargod, July 20: A five-year old boy, who had been suffering from diseases attributed to the spraying of endosulfan in the cashew estates of Plantation Corporation of Kerala Ltd. in the district, died on Friday.
Mithun, son of Mohana-Pushpa couple, residing at Berla died at his residence in Karadukka panchayat in the district. He was confined to bed right from birth.
Despite undergoing treatment in various hospitals in Mangalore and the Pariyaram Medical College hospital, Mithun's condition grew worse in due course of time even though his family members enjoyed free treatment for being able to enlist his name in the official list of the endosulfan victims in the district.
The death of the boy comes a day ahead of the two-day national workshop scheduled here from Saturday to devise comprehensive relief and rehabilitation package for the hundreds of endosulfan victims and their families, driven lead a life of perpetual trauma and agony in the remote hamlets in the district.
