Mangalore, July 28: J R Lobo, former commissioner, Mangalore City Corporation and Executive Director, Pilikula Nisargadhama Society, was officially inducted into the Congress party amid chaos at the district Congress office in Mangalore on Saturday.
As the formal programme began, a fight broke out between Congress activists gathered at the venue over the absence of microphone for the occasion. The confusion and chaotic atmosphere got uglier with some Congress activists even shouting slogans against Ramanath Rai, District President of the party.
Speaking to mediapersons later, Mr. Rai downplayed the incident and said that Mr. Lobo was always a Congress loyalist and that the party is happy to welcome him as its official member. A suitable position in the party would be given to him soon, Mr. Rai said.
Sharing his thoughts, Mr. Lobo said that he decided to join Congress after consultations with his well-wishers and with an intention to strengthen the political system and the Congress party. He is not aspiring for any post, Mr. Lobo said, adding that he would accept whatever the party offers him.
Mayor Gulzar Banu, Former Mayors Ashraf and Shashidhar Bhat, Ivan D'Souza and other Congress leaders were present.
