Mangalore, August 2: In a new development, the Karnataka State Board of Wakfs has taken steps to recover embezzled funds at Katipalla Jumma Masjid, near here.
The Board, which had filed criminal cases against the two former office bearers of the Jumma Masjid for alleged misappropriation of funds during the progress works of the mosque building, now issued notice as per the instructions of Karnataka High Court, to the duo demanding the payment of over Rs 13 lakh due.
“A sum of Rs 13, 15, 353 is due by you as per the report of auditor under section 47 of the Wakf Act-1995 as modified by an Order of the Board or Tribunal under section 48 of the Wakf Act-1995 towards misuse of Wakf fundfrom January 4 2006 to January 31 2009”, stated a notice issued by the Board to P Mohammed Saleem Rafi and B Yousuf, the former president and former general secretary of the managing committee of the mosque respectively.
The notice warned that unless the due amount was paid to the account of the Board, within sixty days from the date of service of the notice, together with a sum of Rs 200 being fee chargeable for the notice, compulsorily proceedings would be taken according to Law for the recovery of the duo amount.
