Kasargod, August 15: A 23-year-old woman had a miraculous escape when she fell off a suspended bridge while crossing a swollen river and rescued after nearly eight hours.
Suchitha, wife of Rajan, a resident of Kuttiyanam, near here, fell off the bridge across the Erinhipuzha river around 5 p.m. on Monday.
Though the river was in spate, she managed to swim nearly 4 km downstream and caught hold of a shrub midstream. A passer-by who heard Suchitha's call for help alerted the police who, in turn, alerted the Fire and Rescue Services, Adur Sub-Inspector A. Damodaran, who was part of the rescue team, said.
The rescue team, including local people, had a tough time reaching Chettunhi, the spot where she was found clinging on to the bush.
She was finally recued half past midnight with the help of fireman A.V. Santhosh Kumar and a local resident, the SI said.
