Mangalore, August 16: There was drama at the 'Jaago Mangalore' protest which was scheduled for inauguration this evening with police coming into the picture and taking into custody the protestors for not taking prior permission for the purpose.
Among those taken into custody were Vijaynath Vittal Shetty, Convenor, Jaago Mangalore Association, Dinesh Hegde Ulepady, advocate, and victims of the homestay attack Vijay Kumar and Gurudutt Kamath.
The protest campaign against the homestay attacks was scheduled to begin with a road show in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office at 5 pm where candles were supposed to be lit besides a video presentation. However, even before the protest could start, police personnel confronted the protestors and stopped them from holding the programme stating that they had not obtained prior permission for the purpose. The protestors were later taken into custody.
As per the schedule, similar road shows are supposed to be held at various junctions everyday for five days followed by a protest march on August 21 from Jyoti Circle to Nehru Maidan, where eminent personalities will address the gathering.
