Mangalore, August 21: City based Social Action Group for Empowerment has sought the immediate intervention of Union Government to save the citizens of Mangalore from health hazards.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday convenor of the Group P V Mohan urged Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to send an evaluation and study team of malaria research experts to study the cases of malaria in Mangalore.
Let the team of experts from Centre extend remedial measure and find out lapses in dealing with malaria, he said.
Mr Mohan also said that Mangalore should be included under urban malaria scheme.
“Currently as many as 131 towns in 19 states and Union Territory, covering 115.1 million populations, come under this scheme. People of Mangalore should also come under this scheme”, he said.
He also accused BJP-led Mangalore City Corporation of not taking any measures to safeguard the health of people of the city during its past four years of reign.
Activists Dr Srinivas Kakkilaya, Suresh Shetty, Prabhakar Salian and Celina Arena were present among others in the press meet.
