Mangalore, August 22: A young Ayurveda doctor succumbed to leptospirosis (rat fever) at a private hospital in the city.
The deceased is Chikmagalur based Sajid Athar, 30, who was practicing in a clinic in the city. He was a successful Ayurvedic consultant at AL SPARSH, Shalimar Complex, Kankanady.
He had obtained his B.A.M.S. degree from Karnataka Ayurveda Medical College, Mangalore.
According to a relative, Dr. Athar had fever 10 days ago and a city hospital diagnosed it as a viral fever. The relative said Dr. Athar returned to Chikmagalur and took medicines. As his condition worsened, Dr. Athar was admitted in a private hospital and then shifted to a speciality hospital, where he died.
The hospital sources confirmed the leptospirosis case and said the doctor died of multi-organ failure.
District Health Officer O. Srirangappa said he had so far not received any report about Dr. Akthar's death.
