Mangalore, August 22: The riots and violence in Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts (BTAD) and Gadi region of Assam are a pre-planned conspiracy by illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, said Ramesh K., State Secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
Speaking at a press meet here on Wednesday, he said that there were several examples of immigrants from Bangladesh being involved in other anti-national activities.
These immigrants without passport or visa have forcefully occupied lands disrupting harmony in Assam and other North-Eastern states like Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram. This is the main cause for the prevailing violence. Other parties too have been taking advantage of this situation and trying to create communal disharmony in the nation. This is part of vote-bank politics by the Central Government, he said.
He said that the Parishad stood in support of the North-Eastern students, and would protect them from further harm.
He said that ABVP had been trying to spread awareness on this issue since 1993, but no one had heeded. He stated that a survey of all the states bordering Bangladesh was conducted by the Vidyarthi Parishad in 2008 and the findings had been submitted in a report to the then-President and Prime Minister of India.
In a similar fashion, three teams from the ABVP had been to the riot-stricken regions of Assam and held discussions with the residents, he stated. But the findings (report) of the visit could not be furnished by him.
Yathish Kumar P., city secretary of ABVP was also present at the press meet.
