Mangalore, September 7: The suspected naxal killed in an encounter with the Anti-Naxal Force squad in Baginamale forest on Tuesday night was a Kannadiga.
ANF Commander Alok Kumar on Friday said that the deceased was identified as Yallappa alias Dinakar of Raichur. He had joined the Maoists in 2004 and was working as the member of the naxal area committee, he said.
Mr Kumar said officials were of the suspicion that Yallappa was training other members to prepare bombs. “A few fuse wires were found in his bag based on which we suspect that he was training them to prepare explosives,” said the officer.
However, he maintained that there was no information on Yallappa's involvement in Maoist activities in this region earlier.
He might have joined the team recently to train them in the preparation of bombs, so there was a delay in identifying him, he said and added that the police are trying to contact his family members.
