Addressing mediapersons at the Police Commissioner's office in Mangalore on Sunday, Mr. Reddy said that relatives of the deceased who came down to the city from Raichur, have identified his body.
“His name according to police records in Raichur is Yellappa S/o Gadiappa. A case was registered against him at Sadarbazaar Police Station in Raichur over a murder that took place in 2003. He was acquitted of the charges in 2005. His family members told us that he had never come home ever since. They have no idea about his involvement in naxal activities but they have identified the body”, Mr. Reddy said.
The deceased's body was identified by his elder brother Taayappa. On verification with police records of Raichur, the police also confirmed that as mentioned in his earlier records, a mark of wound on his shoulder was found in the body. Yellappa hailed from Mandalakere village in Raichur. However, the relatives have not spoken of any missing case being registered anywhere, Mr. Reddy said.
If all formalities are completed, Yellappa's body would be handed over to his relatives today itself, Mr. Reddy said.
On a query on Yellappa's role as a naxal, Mr. Reddy said that a detailed investigation would be carried out as to who his associates were and how he got in touch with naxal activities.
