Mangalore, September 11: Postgraduate teachers on the Mangalore University campus were elated on Monday as the university gave them high-end laptops.
S. Ramananda Shetty, Vice-Chancellor of Nitte University and former Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, gave away the laptops at the foundation day function. Dr. Shetty distributed laptops symbolically to chairpersons of various departments.
T.C. Shivashankara Murthy, Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University, said that other teachers could collect the laptops from the Department of Computer Science.
Prof. Murthy said that now the university had procured 103 laptops for teachers. It would buy 43 more laptops for distributing them among some research scholars, officials and teachers.
He said that the cost of each laptop was Rs. 46,770. It had the latest motherboard, i7 quad core, VGA output. The laptops were wifi-enabled.
Krishna Kumar G, chairman, Department of Applied Botany, and A.M. Khan, chairman, Department of Electronics, told The Hindu that the laptops would help them prepare better for teaching and research activities. As it was portable, it helped in delivering talks in any institution outside.
