Mangalore, September 21: Almost two months after attack on revelers at Morning Mist Home Stay in Padil rocked the state, Mangalore police filed charge sheet on Thursday in a local court.
The police, who arrested 24 persons, have named everyone in the charge sheet.
The voluminous charge sheet filed at Junior Magistrate First Class (JMFC) II court after thorough investigations done by Assistant Police Commissioner T R Jagannath and rural police team.
According to police sources the charge sheet was filed on the basis of the statements of the victims, video footage and the statement of the accused.
It could be recalled here that a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice B.V. Nagarathna at the Karnataka High Court was recently informed by the state government that the police would file charge sheet against the accused soon.
Following this submission from the Government counsel, the Bench adjourned to September 21 the hearing on the public interest litigation petition seeking use of the provisions of the Goonda Act against the accused.
The state government, in its report on the progress of the investigation of the case, had also informed that the Mangalore police have interrogated prime accused Subash Padil and others after taking them into police custody. It has also been stated that the footages of the video recorded by the television channels have also been secured in the compact disc.
The accused are under judicial custody as court had repeatedly denied them bail.
