Mangalore, September 21: Thousands of devotees on Friday night took part in the Shobha Yatra ahead of the immersion of Ganesh idol installed under the joint aegis of Ganeshotsav Samiti and Siddi Vinayak Prathisthan in the city.
The Ganesh idol was taken out in a grand procession from Omkar Nagar at Bunts Hostel. It passed through main roads of the city including PVS circle and Car Street before immersion.
There were several tableaux depicting mythological episodes. A few groups of devotees chanted Bhajan while others danced throughout the procession.
With rains staying away, the pocessionists had a smooth walk. Incessant rains over the last couple of days had threatened to cast a shadow on the Shobha Yatra.
The city police made elaborate security arrangements to ensure peace during the procession.
The traffic movement was restricted and parking was banned on some major roads in the City for several hours in the evening due to the procession.
Prior to the procession, a felicitation several community activists were given a warm felicitation by the organisers.
Rajya Sabha Member Oscar Fernandes among others visited the Omkar Nagar seek blessings from the idol of Ganesh.
