Kasargod, September 29: Officials have averted a possible terror attack by arresting two alleged Hindutva activists who were trafficking huge cache of explosives and detonators from Karnataka to Kerala.
The arrested have been identified as M.P. Bilu and T. Ranjith from Mattannur in Kannur district.
Sources said that excise officials intersected the explosive-laden pick-up van near Kiliyanthara check-post in the Iritty police station limits on Friday.
It is learnt that the duo were travelling from Mysore of Karnataka to their native Mattannur. They have been handed over to the police by excise officials.
As much as 300 kg of ammonium nitrate in six 50-kg bags, 16 bundles of fuse wire and 1,000 powerful detonators in 10 packets were confiscated from the vehicle, the police said.
