Mangalore, September 30: An auto-rickshaw driver was killed on spot after a ghastly road mishap on Netravati Bridge on the outskirts of the city on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Keshava Nadumane (40), a resident of Kuthar, near here. He was riding his rickshaw towards Mangalore from Thokkottu.
The tragedy occurred at around 9: 30 am, when the ill-fated rickshaw collided with a speeding Maroli Travels bus plying towards Thokkottu.
It is learnt that the auto-rickshaw driver lost control over his vehicle while throwing a packet of flowers offered to a deity into the river.
The impact of the accident was such that the front portion of the rickshaw was completely damaged.
The accident led to a major road block between Pumpwell and Thokkottu on National Highway 66 for nearly half an hour.
Police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to the hospital for post mortem. A case was registered.
