Bhatkal, October 8: Unidentified thieves broke into a school and made away with cash amount and valuables worth Rs 2 lakh in the wee hours of Sunday in the town.
According to Zareena Kola, the principal of the Naunihal central School, Bhatkal, a cash amount of Rs 1.5 lakh from her room and locker of the office room along with valuables including a video camera were found missing following the incident.
She said that the thieves gained entry into the school's office room and principal's room by breaking open the doors. The entrance gate's lock also was broken.
She said that they had withdrawn Rs 45,000 from the bank on Saturday for the on-going construction works and kept in the locker. Besides, money collected from school fees was also there in the locker, she said.
ASP Sudheer Kumar Reddy rushed to the along with a team of local police and took up the investigation. Finger print experts were called in and sniffer dogs were also pressed into action.
A case has been registered at Bhatkal town police station.
