Mangalore, October 9: Established in 1912, the Bejai Parish in Mangalore is celebrating its centennial year in 2012. The centenary celebrations which were inaugurated on August 7 will come to a close on October 14.
The closing ceremony will be presided over by Fr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Bishop of Mangalore. Hailing from Bejai, Charles Lobo, Postmaster General of Goa, will be the chief guest on the occasion.
On the occasion, few prominent people from Bejai will be honoured for their services including former parish priests and lay leaders.
There will be a cultural evening on October 12, followed by a procession of tableaus on culture and religion the next day.
The Thanksgiving Holy Mass will be the main part of the centenary celebrations. A choir with the strength of 100 parish members will sing at the mass. A musical play will be staged on St Francis Xavier, whom the Bejai Parish is dedicated to.
Through the centennial year, various competitions were held for different age groups giving them opportunity to exhibit their talents.
