Bangalore, October 12: The family members of the 36-year-old Bangalore-based doctor working in King Fahad National Guard Hospital in Riyadh, who has been reportedly picked up by the Saudi police at the behest of their Bangalore counterparts, have postponed filing of habeas corpus petition in the Karnataka High Court after the Saudi police assured the family of his early release.
A native of Dharwad, Usman Ghani was picked up by the Saudi police on Monday in connection with the case of the alleged terror plot to eliminate prominent personalities.
The family members, who are in touch with the Hospital authorities in Riyadh, were assured that Dr. Ghani would be released soon since charges against him have not been proved.
Dr. Ghani was picked up by Saudi police for questioning and was taken to an undisclosed location. Though the Saudi police informed his wife, Rashida, about his detention, the police neither informed her about the charges nor disclosed the location of Dr. Ghani, which has to be mandatorily disclosed under Saudi laws.
Assistant Commissioner of Police K.N. Jitendranath, who is heading the terror plot investigations, said that he had no information about the arrest.
