Mangalore, October 13: The office-bearers of Kantheri Dhoomavathi Chavadi/Daivsthana Horata Samiti have flayed the acquisition of the temple land under first phase of the Mangalore Special Economic Zone.
Addressing media persons on Friday, temple Managing Trustee Lakshana Chowta said that 800-year-old temple had 37 acres land. However, the land has been notified for MSEZ and the process of land acquisition has been completed, much against the will of the 350 members of Nellidadi Gutthu family that worships the temple God.
When the villagers had planned to take up fight against the land notification earlier, the then MSEZ Managing Director A G Pai had promised that the temple land would not be acquired. Pai had promised to hand over eight acre near Paila in Bajpe which too comes under Nellidadi Gutthu, for parting with the land at Paila. Going by his words, we had allowed the MSEZ to acquire two acre land. Now, the MSEZ has decided to demolish Nellidadi Gutthu, he said.
Samiti Secretary Kishore Shetty said that the agriculture land around Nellidadi Gutthu was damaged by the MSEZ.
The Samiti members also warned of intensifying their protest against the land acquisition process, if the MSEZ continues to demolish the temple.
