Mangalore, October 15: Santhosh Rao, who allegedly raped and murdered 17-year-old girl in Dharmasthala last week, has been remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
The police had produced the accused before Belthangady first class magistrate court on Sunday. Later he was taken to the spot of crime to gather further information.
The police are expected to seek his custody after 15 days. It is said that currently he is in need of medical treatment.
Meanwhile police are investigating whether the same 'mentally-ill' was behind the brutal double murder in of elderly siblings occurred on September 20 in Dharmasthala.
Earlier Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyal had confirmed that 34-year-old Santhosh Rao, a resident of Bajagoli in Karkala taluk, confessed of raping and murdering the helpless girl, who was walking alone on the street on October 9.
