Mangalore, October 15: A physician from Manipal was duped of a huge sum of money by hackers who sent him a fake email message. A complaint has been registered in Udupi town police station.
According to the complaint, Dr K Suresh Shenoy from Lakshmindra Nagar in Manipal had borrowed Rs 2 lakh from Mohan in May 2012, and thereby had received an email message from Mohan on August 5 asking him to return the amount. Dr. Suresh had replied asking Mohan to send the particulars of his bank account.
As per the details received by him, Dr. Suresh on August 13 deposited Rs 1,51,315 to an ICICI bank account (Mumbai – Andheri branch) via his account at Corporation bank in Udupi. But the ICICI bank account did not belong to Mohan, but to someone else who had hacked into Mohan's email account.
