Speaking to media persons at the district Congress office in Mangalore on Wednesday, Mr. Parameshwar said that like other political parties, the Congress too is keen to encourage youth power and more opportunities for 'clean, corrupt-free, and eligible' youth will be given in the upcoming elections, he said, while stating that the youth of Karnataka already have a role model in Rahul Gandhi. “I cannot think of a better youth leadership than that of Rahul Gandhi”, he said.
Briefing about the scheduled programme to be attended by Ms. Gandhi tomorrow, Mr. Parameshwar said that a host of issues related to the state politics and problems of the state would be brought to her notice.
“Both Siddharamaiah, the leader of Opposition at Legislative Assembly, and I will bring to her notice the various problems we are facing. We will place a demand before her to press for the implementation of Nanjundappa Report according to which six districts with very poor development rate need to be given special status. The issue of drought in the state will be brought to her notice again. The problem of areca growers in Dakshina Kannada district will be put forth as well and rehabilitation demands will be made. We will also place the Cauvery issue before her, although I am not sure how far she could help us as the matter is in court”, Mr. Parameshwar said.
The programme will begin at 1 p.m. wherein party activists and leaders even from Zilla Panchayat and Gram Panchayat ranks would be given an opportunity to express their views, problems and suggestions. Ms. Gandhi will arrive at the venue at 4:30 pm, he said. Ms. Gandhi will administer oath to a group of children under 15 years of the Congress Seva Dal contingent on the occasion too. Five activists from the undivided district of DK will be allowed to speak before the AICC Congress chief for 5 minutes each. Ms. Gandhi will be given a special reception and guard of honour, Mr. Parameshwar added.
Mr. Parameshwar said that Ms.Gandhi will also take part in Dasara celebrations at the Kudroli temple in the city tomorrow.
