Mangalore, October 19: Looks of excitement mixed with a feeling of nostalgia for the yesteryears was common among the onlookers as several vintage cars and motorbikes made their way through the Pumpwell road on Friday.
Around 75 cars and bikes, which included vintage sports cars and superbikes, revved up their engines before a large number of vintage enthusiasts, making quite an impressive show.
Flames, a students' association of mechanical engineering students of Sahyadri College of Engineering (ACE) organized the rally as part of the auto expo, which was held later at SCE campus. The rally was flagged off at Mahaveera Circle and concluded at Sahyadri College of Engineering campus, situated in Adyar.
Customized cars and bikes and accessories, which enhance performances of cars and bikes like exhaust free headers and silencers, air-filters and other accessories, were kept for display in the auto expo. As many as seven automobile companies exhibited their respective latest cars.
In the auto expo arena, four huge plasma televisions were installed, where videos of manufacturing of cars like Ferrari and other imported cars were shown.
In the expo, students got an opportunity to interact with automobile experts of various companies to learn about latest technology used in automobile industries, said Rakshith, Organising committee head of the event.
According to him, the event was aimed at educating people about how automobile industry has changed over the years technology-wise. “People can understand the difference between the technology used in yesteryears and in present days as they get the opportunity to see both vintage vehicles and latest vehicles under one roof," he told media persons earlier.
