Karwar, October 23: Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, on Monday said the Finance Department had given its go-ahead for the appointment of 4,000 teachers to primary schools in the State.
Mr. Kageri told presspersons in Sirsi that the process of appointing the teachers would commence next month. He insisted that only candidates who had completed the D. Ed course would be recruited.
The State Government had decided to appoint guest lecturers immediately to pre-university colleges until permanent lecturers were recruited.
The government would spell out the procedure and conditions for the appointment soon, he said.
He said 'Chess Day' would be observed across all high schools in the State. The importance of the game, its genesis, and the role it played in developing personality would be taught to children. The programme was mainly aimed at encouraging children to play chess, Mr. Kageri said.
The government had released Rs. 100 core for the draught-hit taluks in Uttara Kannada. Sirsi, Yellapur, Mundgod, and Haliyal, had been declared draught-hit by the government.
A task force would be formed in each of the taluks to draw up an action plan to fight drought under the chairmanship of the MLA of the respective taluk, he said.
