Mangalore, October 23: A gang of four robbers forcefully entered a house in Krishnapura, on the outskirts of the city, sprayed a liquid on the house-owner and threatened the couple, before decamping with jewellery and other valuables worth Rs 1 lakh on Monday evening.
The robbery took place in the house belonging to NMPT employee Abdul Samad.
It is said that four well-built men sprayed a liquid and attacked Abdul Samad before snatching jewellery weighing six pavan - a gold chain, bracelet, ring and two mobile phones. On searching the house for over ten minutes, having not found anything, the robbers locked the couple and a child inside the bathroom and decamped.
The incident occurred around 7.30 pm at a time when it was raining heavily and there was a power failure.
Posing as acquaintances, the foursome entered the house on the pretext of collecting information for the voters' list, said Abdul Samad in his complaint.
One of the four spoke Beary while the rest conversed in Tulu and Kannada, he said.
Suratkal police inspector M A Nataraj visited the spot along with his team as part of investigation.
