Mangalore, October 24: National Students' Union of India (NSUI) has asked students to submit membership forms for NSUI Organisational elections for Karnataka before November 5.
Addressing media persons at a press meet at the district Congress office in Mangalore on Wednesday, Mohammed Althaf, District President, NSUI, said that candidates and members can submit their membership form to the District Returning Officer (DRO) of their respective districts who will reach their allotted districts soon.
Stating that NSUI has formed units in 10,648 colleges across the country, he said that the organization will start the next round of elections in 22 states after membership applications are scrutinized, thereby enabling every student to take up leadership roles within the organization.
Only regular students can become members of NSUI, he said, while making it clear that students learning via correspondence courses are not eligible to apply. A minimum of 25 members is a must for any college to be valid for taking part in the elections, he said. He further added that the college committee shall comprise of 5 members, while the district and state committees must have 15 each and national delegate committee 4 members. The cutoff date for age eligibility is December 31, 1985, he said.
He also said that the NSUI commission has now introduced a new election model in which nomination at district or state level will be done for 3 posts that of President, General Secretary, and Secretary.
Mohammed Nayeem, Amarnath Reddy, Ravikanth, Shabir Choudhary and Charles Parsumam will be the Pradesh Returning Officers (PRO) for conducting NSUI elections in Karnataka.
