Mangalore Qazi Thwaqa Ahmed Musliyar, who had laid the foundation stone last year, inaugurated the new building and offered prayers.
Speaking on the occasion, he urged the people not to forget the significance of education in religion of Islam. “It is duty of every Muslim man and woman to seek knowledge according to Islam”, he said.
He also said that madras have played a great role imparting moral and religious education across the world. “We have to strengthen madrasa education system,” he said.
Established in 1927, Al Azhariya madrasa is presently run by Al Madrasatul Azhariya Association. It has more than 700 students and 25 Ustads, according to S M Rashid Haji, vice president of the Association.
Mr Haji said that the Association has planned to launch a seven-year 'Aalim' course soon. SSLC education will be the minimum qualification to join this course, he said.
President of Kanara Chamber of Commerce Mohammed Ameen, Madrasa President Y Muhammad Kunhi and Moosa Haji were also present on the occasion.
