Mangalore, November 1: The district unit of Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) will undertake a student's rally and public awareness meet on November 3 with the motto of 'Students Voice for Unity and Peace' with the aim of uniting the student community to protect college campuses from communal divide.

Announcing this at a press meet here on Thursday, SIO state campus secretary Tauseef Ahmed said that due to increasing communalism, disunity and 'groupism' in schools and colleges, the country was in danger of becoming infamous for anti-human actions in future.

“It is the duty of students and youth to see to it that campuses are not converted into official centres of political parties. The organisation aims to build friendly relations between students, inspire them to promote constructive activities and forming a creative student community. We call on students to come forward and join hands with us to create a harmonious environment,” he said.

He said that the student rally will begin from Jyothi Circle at 3 pm on Monday and move towards Deputy Commissioner's office. National president of SIO Mohammed Azharuddin, Harish Achar, Mohammed Kunhi and SIO state president Ashfaq Shareef will be the chief guests on the occasion, he said.

Joint secretary of state unit Shahid, convenor of Dakshina Kannada unit Abdul Kabir and president of Mangalore unit Sarfaraz were present at the press conference.
