Wet and gloomy weather continued across coastal Karnataka for the fourth consecutive day as a result of cyclone 'Nilam' that hit Tamil Nadu coast last Wednesday.
Agriculture was heavily affected and many houses were damaged in the region due to untimely rains. Water logging in the fields destroyed crops in many parts of twin districts.
The changed weather condition and continuous rainfall has dampened routine life in cities likes Mangalore and Udupi. In some rural areas gusty wind and rain felled dozens of trees and branches resulting in power outage.
Meanwhile, the sudden change in weather is likely to add to Coastal people's health problems. Doctors, who are already seeing an increased number of cases of viral flu and vector-borne diseases, said they expected a rise in such cases in the next few days.
Experts have suggested the people to take precautions and avoid catching infections.
Rainfall in Dakshina Kannada district in the last 24-hours up to 8.30am (in mm) is as follows: Bantwal widespread 15; Belthangady widespread 23.5; Mangalore widespread 35.5; Puttur widespread 23; and Sullia widespread 34.
