Mangalore, November 3: It was a busy day for the National Social Service volunteers, who were the students of Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore. They had the task of creating awareness among the people about the bad effects of plastic. They were all out for the cause of the day 'no to plastics'.
After participating in a walkathon to promoting the cause of "no to plastics" in the city along with the students of 15 other colleges recently, the volunteers of FMMC participated in a cleaning drive.
The 'shramdan' was organised in association with Lion's Club to help clean the surroundings and rid them of plastics. The volunteers cleaned up the plot in Jyothi Nagar, here using sickles and ploughs.
This encouraged the local youth to pick up some tools and help in the cleaning of an adjacent plot.
Mithun, an NSS volunteer gave a talk to the local youth on the importance of waste management. This was received well by the localites.
Finally, satisfied with their work, the volunteers wrapped up the day at 12:30pm. All of them dispersed with the message of 'no to plastics' loud and clear in the hearts and minds of the localites.
