Hamza Malar, two others receive Beary Academy awards

Bangalore, November 5: Three eminent Beay personalities- Hamza Malar, Ahmed Bava Bajal and Ismail Moodushedde- were presented with honorary awards of the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy for 2011.

State Higher Education Minister C T Ravi conferred the awards at a function at the Raveendra Kalashetra here on Sunday.

The award comprises a purse of Rs. 10,000 and citation each. The awardees have been have been chosen for the award in view of their contribution to the fields of Beary language, literature and culture.

According to academy chairman Rahim Uchil Mr. Ahmed Bava Bajal has served the Beary community in various capacities.

Mr. Hamza Malar, a journalist, has written extensively in all genres of literature and has 32 published works to his credit.

Mr. Ismail Moodushedde is a noted playwright in Tulu and Beary languages. Besides directing plays, he has made films in Beary language.

On the occasion, seven other Beary personalities who have served the community were felicitated. K Muhammad Beary, Razaq and G M Cheriyabba Saab (Beary Organisers), Shafi Sa'adi (Beary language), K Muhammad Muneer (Social Service), Idinabba Beary (Writer) and Abdul Razaq Harekal (Health and Education) were felicitated.

Assayyid Fazal Koyamma Koorath Thangal, Karnataka Minorities' Development Corporation Chairman N B Aboobaker, Academy Chairman Rahim Uchil, Kannada Development Authority President Mukyamanthri Chandru, MLA N A Haris, Academy Registrar Umarabba, Lathif Neralakatte and Abdul Khader were present.
