Mangalore, November 5: The members of Dakshina Kannada unit Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) courted arrest after they attempted to picket Mangalore Taluk Panchayat office here on Monday.

They were protesting to press their demands such as provision of sites to those who do not have houses, title deeds to those who have constructed houses on government land without charging penalty and regularisation of forest and revenue lands encroached by the poor.

Addressing the protestors K R Shriyan, President of the Sangha said that the state government did not take any steps to distribute title deeds for the poor.

He said both state government and Central government have failed to provide mere 5 cents of land for the poor when acres of land are being encroached by the land-sharks.

There is huge number of people who could not apply for Declaration due to lack of information, hence their form numbers 50 and 53 were rejected, he said.

Though the district administration has assured to appoint a surveyor for each taluk and recognised 452 acres for house sites, it did not materialise so far, he said.

General Secretary Yadava Shetty also spoke. Vasudev Uchil, Balakrishna and others were present.

All the arrested members were released in the evening.
