Dharmasthala, November 6: Parents of Saujanya (17), a PUC student of SDM College, Ujire who was raped and murdered by one Santhosh Rao at Dharmasthala recently, have submitted a memorandum to the Governor, requesting a CBI inquiry into the case.

They also submitted the copy of the memorandum to Kemaru Esha Vittaldasa seer, who visited the house of Saujanya, at Pangala near Dharmasthala on Monday.

Condemning the incident, the seer promised to extend support to the family seeking justice. “The case should be handed over to the CBI. The culprit should be punished”, he said.

He said that it is unfortunate that the police have refused to hand over the FIR copy and post-mortem report to Saujanya's parents.

“The police Department should make public the investigation report, within 15 days. If the demands are not met by the authorities concerned, then a PIL will be filed in the High Court,” warned the seer.

Revealing that over 50 unnatural deaths have been reported in Dharmasthala in the recent years, he said all these cases should be re-investigated and the information should be made available to the public.

He urged that the non-boilable case registered against a few people who had protested following Saujanya's death, should be withdrawn immediately.

Though police have clarified that Santosh Rao, who is currently in judicial custody was the only accused in Saujanya rape and murder case, some Hindutva outfits have said that a few others too may have involved in the crime.
