Mangalore, November 10: A Government Research Centre, Incubation Centre and Placement and Training Centre for technical students, was inaugurated at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Mangalore, on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, C T Ravi, State Minister for Higher Education and district in charge minister, Dakshina Kannada, said that there is a need for more research centres to come up so that the lost Indian glory is rediscovered.
“India was a popular knowledge destination in the past where students from around the world would come to study at Nalanda and Takshashila Universities. It was Aryabhata who spoke of the shape of the earth and the 365 days of the year. The Qutub Minar in Delhi stands tall as a testimony to the scientific expertise of Indians as it has braved sun, wind and rain for centuries but has not caught rust. Indians have never lagged behind in science and the God Particle discovery was also spoken of by an Indian scientist much before. Because of years of slavery, we have forgotten who we are and through research we need to recover what we have lost to the west”, Mr. Ravi said.
DV Sadananda Gowda, Former Chief Minister, in his address said that students from rural areas must also benefit from latest technologies and facilities like research centres and meta colleges. They must also be able to get jobs through campus placements. Education must facilitate new innovations and change in society, he opined.
Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, Krishna Palemar, MLA, Dr. Maheshappa, Vice Chancellor, VTU, Dr. MD Tiwari, Director, IIIT-Allahabad, Manjunath Bhandary, President, Bhandary Foundation, were present among others.
