Mangalore, November 16: The members of Hindu Jagrana Vedike on Friday lashed out at 'Citizens of Dharmasthal' a group of local people of Dharmasthal who had recently criticized Kemaru mutt pontiff Esha Vittala Dasa Swamiji for allegedly trying to mislead the case of Saujanya, a PUC girl, who was raped and murdered by Santosh Rao.
The development comes following a protest by 'Citizens of Dharmasthal', wherein Gram Panchayat president Keshav Belalu, members Shrinivas Rao and Dhanakeerthi Arige, had urged the seer not to mislead people in such cases.
Addressing a press conference here, local leader of HJV Satyajit Suratkal alleged that the trio might have been hand-in-gloves with the real culprits in Soujanya murder case. “That is why they made derogatory remarks against Swamiji for voicing out his concerns about the case”, he said.
“Instead of being supportive of Swamiji in appealing for CBI investigation in the murder case, the three have insulted him, leading the HJV to suspect that they might be trying to protect the actual culprits, he said.
He urged the district administration and Superintendent of Police to conduct a re-investigation into the murder case, including the involvement of the three officials, in order to disperse the suspicion among people. Else he appealed that the case along with 54 cases of unnatural deaths in the region of Dharmasthala be handed over to CBI for probe.
He further insisted that legal action be taken against the trio by the police for making defamatory statements against the revered Swamiji. The three must also publicly apologise to the Swamiji, failing which the HJV will hold intense protests in the coming days, said Satyajit Suratkal.
HJV leaders Ganapathy Bangera and Kishen were present at the press meet.
It could be recalled here that SP Abhishek Goyal had reconfirmed that except Santosh Rao no one had involved in the rape and murder of the girl.
